2013
DAYS 1-2: BANGKOK
On arrival in Bangkok, transfer to your hotel. This evening, enjoy a welcome drink with your tour leader and the small group you will share your journey with. Explore the Thonburi klongs, or canals, on a private boat cruise before a walking tour immerses you in the excitement of the streets of Bangkok, unveiling the sparkling Grand Palace and peaceful Wat Pho. Take a thrilling tuk-tuk ride through the streets of Chinatown and walk down Sampeng Lane, with free time later on to dive into some of Asia’s best shopping.

DAYS 3-4: RIVER KWAI & KANCHANABURI
On your way to the River Kwai region stop at the Thai-Burma Museum before boarding traditional boats to glide along the river to your accommodation, unique thatch-roofed chalets in the jungle by the river’s edge, surrounded by towering mountains. Contemplate the rich and turbulent history of the region when you head to Hellfire Pass and the Bridge over the River Kwai.

DAYS 5-7: AYUTHAYA & SUKHOTHAI
Travelling overland through charming rural Thailand, stop at Bang Pa-In, the former Royal summer residence, on the way to the former Thai capital of Ayuthaya. Marvel at the impressive ruins of the World Heritage listed Wat Phra Sri Sanphet and Wat Mahathat and then explore the fascinating Folk Museum in Phitsanulok. The former Khmer outpost of Lopburi is illuminating. Sukhothai is considered the birthplace of Thai culture and you have the option to explore this intriguing town by bicycle, followed by a trip to an interesting eco-farm, before free time to relax.

DAYS 8-10: CHIANG MAI
Discover lovely temples at Sai Satchanalai and Lampang before arriving in charming Chiang Mai. See the city’s sights on a walking tour of the Old City and roam the colourful markets. Admire the stunning views from the hilltop Doi Suthep temple and learn more about Buddhism with one of the local monks. Learn to create your own dishes of the regional cuisine at a hands-on cooking course, and then share your creations for your farewell dinner. On your last day enjoy free time before your departure transfer.
